Over 60 years in business
It all started in 1953 when the production technology for manufacturing sea buckthorn oil had been developed. In 1954 the first batch of oil was produced. Its therapeutic effects have been confirmed by many years of use in the medical practice. Since then, sea buckthorn oil has become a hallmark of CJSC Altayvitaminy. In 1962-1963 the plant started producing vitamin pills and other products based on natural ingredients. In 1971 the expansion of production had been finalized, providing a new research laboratory equipped with spectrophotometer and gas-liquid chromatograph. In 1973 an intensive expansion of the plant had begun. The process included major construction works, refurbishment of production facilities, and creation of the necessary infrastructure. At the same time a team of specialists had been formed and the cooperation of the plant with different research organizations all over the country had been improved. The period between 1975 and 1980 was marked by major growth of production capacities, introduction of new production lines, significant expansion of assortment of medical preparations. During that period the company also established its own microbiological laboratory. In the late 80s early 90s the company initiated the research of new areas of development. The company decided to turn to the natural resources of Altay and other nearby regions. On the basis of the organized central laboratory the company initiated pilot production of medicinal and cosmetic products based on the golden root, peony, ginseng, and propolis.
Today CJSC Altayvitaminy is one of the leading Russian (top 20) manufacturers of medical preparations and vitamins. The product range and output volumes have increased steadily and today the company produces the biggest range of drugs in aerosol packaging in Russia. It produces over 100 different products 95% of which are pharmaceutical drugs. The company’s original products are protected by patents. Today the company is in the top 20 companies of the pharmaceutical industry of Russia. The company’s mission is to protect the health of the population by creating effective and high quality medical preparations.
Strategic assets
One of the main assets of the company is the ability to create new competitive products (original and generic). The scientific potential of the company is realized in the Research & Development Center that combines the central and test laboratories, scientific and medical departments, drug registration department, and the patent department. The creation of new products is carried out in close cooperation with such research organizations as the National Center for Biotechnology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Altay Medical University, Pyatigorsk Pharmaceutical Academy, Novosibirsk Medical Academy and others. The company has mastered the modern technologies used in the production of medicines. Modern equipment allows to manufacture the products in different forms such as aerosols, sprays, infusions, soft and hard gelatin capsules, suppositories, ointments, tablets, pills, liquid medicines (tinctures, syrups), and dried concentrate. Another asset of the company is the high competence of its personnel with extensive experience and qualifications. The total number of employees is 1270 people. A third of them (453 people) have acquired the higher vocational education. The company offers trainings on the rules and philosophy of GMP to the employees at all levels. CJSC Altayvitaminy finances all the necessary trainings for the employees.
CJSC Altayvitaminy achieved success and gained the trust of customers. There are several factors that the company’s success may be attributed to. The first such factor is the resource base. The company uses only natural raw materials in the production of herbal medicines and dietary supplements. The second very important element of the success of CJSC Altayvitaminy is the high quality of the products that it offers. All stages of production are strictly controlled. The quality management system which is certified in accordance with international standards ISO 9001:2008, 22000:2005 and used at the plant allows to guarantee the highest quality. And the last but not least, is the uniqueness of products. More than 20 medical preparations in the assortment portfolio of the company are original products, designed by the specialists of the company. Each year the company launches about 8 to 10 new products, having another 30 in various stages of development. The company’s product range consists of more than 100 different medical preparations including those used for treatment of different groups of cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal, gynecological, colorectal, and dental diseases. On the basis of the main brand - sea buckthorn oil, the enterprise created more than 20 kinds of original products and the most popular is vibesate for burns named Olasol®. It is widely used in hospitals for treatment of severe burn patients. The second most popular product is the anti-hemorrhoidal suppositories Olesthesin®. Modern aerosol production enables manufacturing of such life-saving drug as “Salbutamol”, “Proposol” a spray on the basis of propolis for treatment of oral diseases, and an anti-inflammatory spray Inhalypt. A new approach directed to prevention and treatment of vascular diseases is implemented in the product Angiovit®, which lowers homocysteine level in blood. In 2010 the company launched the production of infusion solutions.
Along with a wide range of medicinal products the company manufactures functional foods. One of the most popular products in that category is the dried tonic beverage Maral®, specially created for the Russian biathlon team. A new cosmetic line “Bionic. Big City Cosmetics” has been launched at the beginning of 2011. The products were designed with the use of innovative biotechnology and the latest achievements of pharmaceutical science and cosmetology.
Development goals
First of all the company is striving to maintain the high quality standards of its products. Another crucial goal is the creation of new competitive products with high growth potential, high quality standards and patent protection. The company is planning to build a new modern pharmaceutical warehouse. Other important tasks include the development of innovative medical products based on natural raw materials and improvement of the technologies for complex processing of local raw materials used for production of medical preparations. CJSC Altayvitaminy has a great potential for creating and manufacturing of dietary supplements and functional foods. Currently, the company is developing a program for complex processing of products on the basis of maral’s antlers. In order to prove the effectiveness and healing properties of the developed products clinical trials are conducted in various scientific and clinical facilities.
Clients and partners
CJSC Altayvitaminy exports about 20% of its products to various countries including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Republic of Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Lithuania. The future plans of the company include the increase of trade volumes with other post-Soviet countries such as Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and the establishing of partner relations with Serbia, Turkey, Greece and Mongolia. The company values each and every of its customers and offers an individual approach to each one of them. The company’s main partners are pharmaceutical distributors, medical institutions and pharmacy chains. The preferred customers are the major national distributors, which have the highest share in the distribution of pharmaceutical products in Russia as well as foreign distributors.
