Zakłady Urządzeń Kotłowych Stąporków S.A. (ZUK Stąporków) is one of the leading companies to offer products for the power engineering industry in Poland. The company’s business focuses on a comprehensive range of solutions offered to power generation and distribution facilities and industrial power engineering industry. Following ownership changes in the recent few years, manufacturing quality of the company has been continuing to increase by introduction of state-of-the-art technologies and modernisation of the machine park and equipment. It puts ZUK Stąporków in a position to widen its offer and deliver services in other fields.

Centuries-long traditions


The industrial traditions of ZUK Stąporków date back to the turn of the 16th century. The first mention of industrial activities comes from the year 1738 - it was when the Chancellor Jan Małachowski had a iron blast furnace built in the place where ZUK Stąporków is located today. In the period between the two World Wars, Stąporków Steel Works had operations there. Stanisław and Edward iron ore mines were developed in the neighbourhood to supply the steel works. After World War Two, Stara Góra mine was developed. It remained operational until early 1970s. It was when Zakłady Górniczo Metalowe Stąporków was established, and in 1976, pursuant to a decision of the Minister of Heavy and Agricultural Machinery - ZUK Stąporków was established. The then major products were mechanical stokers, stoker drives and slag collection systems. Economic changes in Poland at the end of 1980s prompted the company to start manufacturing products not only for heat engineering industry, but also for a variety of industries using metal products. As of 1st March 1995, the company was transformed into a company wholly owned by the State Treasury. In September 1995, the shares of the enterprise were subscribed by National Investment Funds. The leading shareholder was the National Investment Fund of E. Kwiatkowski. Since 2004, 96% of the company’s share capital has been owned by STALMAX. Since August 2007 the company has been quoted at the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

State-of-the-art technology, prestigious certificates 


Simultaneously to ownership changes in the recent few years, the company has been making investments in its machine inventory, developed its manufacturing technologies and improved its staff’s vocational qualifications. It enables the enterprise to take up to more and more ambitious tasks. Next to that, year-long experience in metal products manufacturing puts the company in the leading position among major domestic businesses of this kind. At ZUK Stąporków, lots of efforts also is put in the promotional activities of the company and its offer. The enterprise is aware of the role and importance of participation in diversified industry meetings, trade fairs, etc. Owing to that, it actively participates in those events on a regular basis. An example of that may be the ENEX international trade fair. The purpose of the event, which took place in March 2008, was to present new technologies in using biomass as fuel. The stall of ZUK Stąporków enjoyed great interest among the visitors as well asother participants of the fairs. What it resulted in, was a number of new and promising contacts with customers as well as other players of the industry. Furthermore, the company is eager to exchange ideas and concepts with its customers as well as competitors. It is a regular participant of meetings and forums of heating engineers. Their goal is not only to present the company, but also to deliver professional consultancy. The interest of other participants confirms the leading position that ZUK Stąporków boasts in its industry. Active participation of ZUK Stąporków in a variety of industry-specific events brought the company a number of certificates and distinctions. Next to the ones peculiar for the business the enterprise represents, ZUK Stąporków has been also distinguished with some other, prestigious titles. One of them is the title of Gazela Biznesu 2007 (Business Gazelle 2007) received from Puls Biznesu, a Polish economic newspaper, for dynamic development and growth figures. Another important awards include: Diamenty Forbesa 2009 (Forbes Diamonds 2009) and Filary Polskiej Gospodarki 2008 (Pillars of Polish Economy 2008). The former was given to ZUK Stąporków as an acknowledgement for its dynamic worth increase in the years 2005-2007. The latter is a distinction for the economic and social influence of the company on its region and local community.

Wide offer for a range of industries


ZUK Stąporków specializes in the production of equipment for: power industry, sugar refineries, cement works, steel works and foundries as well as construction industry.

The scope of operations of ZUK Stąporków includes:
in the area of power engineering: design and manufacture of comprehensive coal feeding, coal burning and slag collection systems, assembly of sold products, upgrade of systems for heat engineering industry, sale and distribution of a wide range of products for the power engineering industry,
in the area on environmental protection: design and manufacture of comprehensive dedusting systems, assembly of sold systems, servicing and commissioning of sold systems, guarantee-covered emission measurements,
in the area of steel industry: design and manufacture of steel structures, manufacture of system-based formwork, system-based anchorages and concrete batchers for the construction industry, manufacture of containers and vessels, manufacture of system-based architectural items for urban environments.

ZUK Stąporków has five manufacturing halls with machinery and equipment for a variety of methods of material treatment and assembly. The company has plans to build some more modern halls, which will contribute to the increase of its manufacturing capacity even more.

Moreover, the enterprise has a large inventory of machine tools, including CNC machine tools operating next to conventional machinery. That is why it is able to handle a variety of orders of the metal industry as regards:
- steel structures, 
- products for the construction industry, 
- containers and vessels, 
- heat exchangers, 
- architectural items.  

The engineering industry offer is also broad. The product range includes:
- mechanical stokers - mechanical multiple-retort stoker intended for burning layered fuel, 
- stoker drivers - gear transmissions featuring rotation speed controls used for driving mechanical stokers, 
- conveyers - scraping conveyors, belt conveyors, screw conveyors and bucket conveyors used for the transport of fuels, slag and ash, 
- combined burning of coal and biomass – new offer of upgrading WR and OR boilers, which adaptation allows for combined burning of biomass and fine coal, 
- biomass burning – machinery for transport, shredding and burning of biomass. 

As far as tools and equipment for environmental protection are concerned the company offers:
- pulsation filters - used for the removal of dust produced in manufacturing operations from air and other gases, 
- components of dedusting systems - round and rectangular ducts, cyclones, bends, transitions and reductions, T-pipes, stacks, 
- filtering system of MCF type – allowing to reach the required emission of 100 mg/m3, 
- flue gas dedusting installations for water and steam boilers. 

It is worth mentioning that for the last five years the company has been actively developing its export activity concerning air purification systems such as: sag filters, combustion gas channels, conveyor belts as well as batchers to western European and Scandinavian countries.

Services


Next to the workmanship of tools and equipment, the offer of ZUK Stąporków includes design as well as professional consulting and servicing. All that based on the most modern and advanced software available, e.g.: Auto Cad, Auto Cad Mechanical, Solid Works or Tru Tops.

The services include:
- design of comprehensive coal feeding, coal burning and slag collection systems,
- upgrading of products owned by customers, 
- assembly of products at heat engineering facilities,  
- machining: screw-cutting lathes, turning and boring lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, CNC machine tools,  
- plasma and gas cutting: computer-controlled burner for plasma burning and cutting (ordinary steel, stainless steel, heat-proof steel, etc. with a thickness up to 20 mm), computer-controlled burner (propane-butane) - ordinary steel with a thickness up to 180 mm,  
- cold forming: gate shears, winding rollers, press brakes, 
- hot forming: induction hardening, hardening furnaces,  
- application of anticorrosive protection: shot blaster for steel sheets and sections (height of 500 mm, width of 1,500 mm), hydrodynamic and pneumatic painting,  
- welding of steel structures: manual welding with shielded electrodes, gas and gas mixtures shield welding - MAG, MIG and TIG methods.
